Support Co-Worker Guidebook
When creating positions for individuals
with multiple disabilities a team approach is sometimes
the best option. This team consists of a paid staff
person and a person with a disability performing the
job tasks together of one job description. This guide
explores a) viewing yourself as a co-worker and colleague
working along side an individual with a disability;
b) enhancing the social integration and interaction
of your co-worker with other employees at the jobsite;
and c) maximizing participation, independence and productivity
to the greatest extent possible. This guide also discusses
task adaptation strategies, training techniques and
ways to maintain your co-workers' positive work attitude.
